Regional Secretary - Garth Cooper

Garth CooperGarth is a past vice-chairman of the region, and sat on a number of the regional sub-committees, including HYR, conference and training. He is co-author of East Coast Pilot, and has edited a number of magazines, including Anglia Afloat. As well as writing he is a broadcaster and speaker. A member of Haven Ports YC since the seventies he sails a mid-sixties classic by Kim Holman. He is a skipper and crew with the East Anglian Sailing Trust and takes blind and visually impaired people cruising. He is also the region’s Honda Youth RIB championship co-ordinator.

Chairman - Richard Card

cardRichard also represents the Norfolk and Suffolk Boating Association, of which he is Chairman. He represents RYA East on the East Anglian Marine Safety Sub-Committee of the MCA. Richard is also a member of the Great Yarmouth Port Company Community and Maritime Liaison Committee and a number of Broads-based committees. He has been involved in boating for 60 years, on the Broads for the last 40. Richard's principal boat is an Albin 25 motor cruiser but he and his wife also have a couple of dinghies which they sail on a non-competitive basis.

Treasurer - Peter Woods

Peter WoodsPeter is a long serving member of the Committee as a representative of the Blackwater & Colne Sailing Association (BaCASA) and as Regional Treasurer. He is also the Eastern Region representative on the RYA Offshore and Coastal Consultative Panel (OCCP). He retired from banking in 1996 after 34 years and now has a part time job with Essex Ambulance Service. He’s married with three married daughters and four grandchildren.

Peter’s been sailing for 54 years having started in Fleetwind dinghies at Maldon and after progressing through a number of sailing cruisers now owns a Hallberg Rassy 342 that he sailed with his wife back from Sweden in 2006 and then went round Britain in 2007. Peter also helps to raise funds for the RNLI and has been Treasurer of the Maldon branch for over 30 years.

He’s been a member of Maldon Little Ship Club for 54 years and is also a member of Bradwell Cruising Club.

Deputy Chairman -  Doug MacEwen 

Doug MacEwenDoug MacEwen is Hon Secretary of the Crouch Area Yachting Federation (CAYF) and is Chairman of the Heads of the River Combined Clubs Committee, a member of the Crouch Harbour Authority, a member of the Crouch Harbour Authority Advisory Committee, a past Commodore of South Woodham Ferrers YC, a member of the Crouch Coastal Community Team.

He’s also a Yachtmaster Power and Sail having been an instructor with East Anglian Sea School for a number of years. He’s a member of the Dinghy Cruising Association and sails a 12 foot Essex Smack Boat and cruises a 25 foot Colvic Sailer.


Regional Communicator – Holly Hancock

Holly HancockHolly Hancock is Regional Communicator for the RYA Eastern Region. She is a keen sailor, regularly racing a Laser dinghy and Reedling Keelboat on the Norfolk Broads, and is an RYA Dinghy, Keelboat and Race Instructor, regularly volunteering at her local club.
Holly promotes RYA activities in the region through press releases, web site and social media, and would like to hear from clubs and centres about events including Push the Boat Out days, open days, start sailing and start racing programmes, RYA volunteer awards, youth champion awards, grant awards, Sailability, OnBoard, Team15 and Honda Youth Rib.
